Famous Old Homes, Shuangxi's Changing Times

「周總理古厝」是雙溪街區最古早的豪宅，清朝時由「周步蟾」興建，位於雙溪渡船頭，經營的「源泰茂商號」曾是重要貿易點。周步蟾在日治時期是首任頂雙溪街庄長，是礦主，也是貂山吟社發起人，地位顯赫，人稱「周總理」。現今古厝已賣給林姓人家使用，不開放入內參觀。從建築外觀還可看到很多細節，像是官帽型屋頂、石刻門簾，顯示周家財力與社會地位。這棟古厝靜立溪畔，見證雙溪的繁華與變遷。

Premier Chou's Ancient House is the oldest mansion in Shuangxi. It was built during the Qing Dynasty by Buchan Chou near the Shuangxi ferry dock. His business “Yuan Tai Mao Trading Company” was once an important trading center. During the Japanese colonial period, Buchan Chou was the first mayor of Dingshuangxi Street District. He was also a mine owner and the founder of the Diaoshan Poetry Society. People respected him and called him “Premier Chou.” Today, the old house has been sold to the Lin family and is no longer open to the public. But you can still see many details from outside, like the roof shaped like an official’s hat and the carved stone door curtains, showing the Chou family's wealth and status. This house stands quietly by the river and tells the story of Shuangxi's growth and changes over time.
