Shuangxi Writes the Memory of Water雙溪渡船頭昔日是熱鬧的水路樞紐!
Shuangxi's old ferry dock was once a busy river transport hub. Boats carried cargo and passengers down the Shuangxi River to the sea, while on the return trip, small vessels brought daily goods back upstream. The river is formed by the meeting of the Pinglin and Mudan creeks, which gave rise to the name “Dinshuangxi.” (“Din” literally means “upper”) During the Qing dynasty, the market street beside the dock was a key relay stop on the historic Tamsui-Kavalan Trail, where merchants and travelers stopped to rest and resupply. Over a century ago, Dr. George Leslie Mackay stood on the high ground where the two streams meet. He saw valleys reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands and was captivated by Shuangxi's beauty. The old ferry dock preserves both its name and the memory of a life tied to the river.
